4/29/2009 - JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As most of us now are aware, arguably the best NASCAR writer of his time, David Poole, passed away Tuesday from a heart attack at his Stanfield, North Carolina, home. He was 50.
David was a dear friend of the Jacksonville, Florida, based Victory Marketing Team (VMT), a motorsports-focused marketing, Web design, consulting and driver development service. VMT president Brian Faircloth was shocked and struck with much sorrow to learn of the death of his good friend.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of David Poole’s passing,” said Faircloth. “David was an ambassador for the sport of racing, but he was also a guy who kept it in check. I considered him my mentor, but more importantly a good friend.”
Poole was originally scheduled to be a speaker at VMT’s motorsports seminar in Concord, N.C., on May 18, which has now been postponed.
After learning he had a prior engagement on that date, Poole regretfully admitted he made a mistake with his scheduling and would not be able to attend. He offered to make it up to VMT any way he could. That exemplifies the type of person Poole was – a greatly motivated, hard worker always on the go, but always trying to make it work for others.
Poole was in his 13th year covering racing for the , the newspaper located in the hub of the American racing industry. He co-hosted the popular “The Morning Drive” show on on weekdays.
He will be dearly missed by VMT and everyone who was fortunate enough to know him.
